About the Color Guard

What is Color Guard at Rosemount High School?

OPEN TO RHS BAND STUDENTS
NO EXPERIENCE IS NECESSARY.  We will provide all training needed to be successful!

The Rosemount High School Color Guard is an award-winning program of excellence.  Being involved in this rewarding activity provides teenagers with the benefits of work ethic, time management, self-esteem, friendship, and fun.  Our high school guard program has grown drastically in recent years.  We have become established as a regionally known talent, and our members work incredibly hard putting long hours into their commitment to excellence.  We would like to continue to grow our program by building community awareness and participation.

During the summer and fall, the color guard rehearses and performs with the Rosemount High School Marching Band.  This nationally known, award-winning marching band is currently over 200  members.  Rehearsals begin in June and the season continues through October (2023) or mid-November, culminating at the Bands of America (BOA) Grand National Championships in Indianapolis, Indiana. (2024)

The color guard at Rosemount High School is a part of the marching band and music program. During football season, the color guard is an integral part of the marching design, color palette, and musical interpretation of the show. By using flags, sabres, mock rifles, swing flags, and other pieces of equipment pertaining to the music, as well as a mix of ballet, jazz, modern, and contemporary modern dance, the color guard interprets the music into a stunning visual element and to express dynamic passages in the music accompanying the marching band show.

The RHS marching band has won numerous awards in BOA competitions throughout the years and have won the Minnesota State Marching Band Championships 16 times in the past 18 years. They have also had the privilege of performing in the 2023 and 2014 Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade and 2017 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

The Rosemount Color Guard consists of high school students who benefit from being in a world-class organization and have the opportunity to work with some of the best professional color guard instructors and performers in the world. Top-quality instruction is critical to the success of the color guard and allows success and contributes to the rich tradition of excellence, which makes the Rosemount Bands so well known.

Rosemount Winter Color Guard Program - hope to return in 2024/2025

In November, the program focus turns to winter guard.  Winter guard is the sport of indoor color guard. Modern color guard is a combination of the use of flags, sabers, mock rifles, and other equipment, as well as dance and other interpretive movement. Winter guards can be found in high schools, middle schools, some universities, and also some independent organizations.

The Rosemount Guard program supports 2 winter guard ensembles providing varying levels of the guard experience to our middle school and high school members. The RHS Winterguard performs on weekends in January to April including the North Star Circuit Championships (MN circuit) and the Winterguard International Champions in Dayton, Ohio.

Beginning Flagline Ensemble - hope to return in 2024/2025
(Open to CURRENT 8thGrade Band students from Rosemount Middle & Scott Highland Middle Schools – BOYS AND GIRLS ARE WELCOME)

The purpose of the “Flagline” program is to introduce students to the Rosemount Color Guard program and the Rosemount Marching Band program. By teaching the students fundamental skills on flag, marching, and movement, students incorporate these skills into a routine. The students will perform and demonstrate for friends and family at a couple of metro area shows in February and March.

The RHS Flagline program is a great way to meet other motivated and interested students in a positive atmosphere. The students will learn the value of hard work while gaining new performance skills. Color guard is also an excellent confidence builder as the students learn to work together as a team. Patience, leadership skills, and creative thinking are only a few reasons to be involved with the Rosemount Flagline Color Guard program!
